ASIC Credit Cases

Course Details

Description

ASIC is Australia’s corporate, markets, financial services and consumer credit conduct regulator. ASIC regulates Australian corporations, financial markets, and financial services organisations and professionals who deal and advise in investments, superannuation, insurance, deposit taking and credit.

ASIC regulates these entities under several Commonwealth laws, including the Corporations Act 2001 (Corporations Act), the Australian Securities and Investments Commission Act 2001 (ASIC Act), the National Consumer Credit Protection Act 2009 (National Credit Act), the Superannuation Industry (Supervision) Act 1993, and the Financial Sector Reform (Hayne Royal Commission Response—Better Advice) Act 2021 (Better Advice Act).

This course examines ASIC’s role in consumer credit protection, focusing on its enforcement role and how organisations can cooperate with it to fulfil its objectives.

It also presents several case studies that can help organisations understand how poor financial decisions, coupled with a lack of regulatory compliance, can negatively impact a firm.
