Description
Child Protection and Mandatory Reporting is a practical 1-hour online CPD course designed for teachers and educators working across Australian schools. It provides clear, up-to-date guidance on child safety responsibilities, mandatory reporting requirements, recognising signs of abuse and neglect, responding to disclosures, documentation, and internal escalation procedures.
This course helps teachers understand their legal and professional obligations in relation to child protection in Australian education settings. Participants will explore the foundations of child-safe practice, including the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations, duty of care, professional boundaries, and the importance of timely, lawful action when concerns arise.
Throughout the course, learners will examine the main forms of abuse, neglect, grooming, and exposure to domestic and family violence, along with the physical, behavioural, emotional, and social indicators that may suggest a child is at risk. The course also explains how children may disclose harm directly or indirectly, and how teachers should respond in a calm, supportive, and non-judgmental way without attempting to investigate.
Participants will also learn the difference between internal reporting, mandatory external reporting, and emergency response, as well as the importance of accurate documentation, confidentiality, and secure recordkeeping. Practical school-based scenarios are included to help teachers apply the recognise, respond, record, and report model in realistic situations.
Ideal for teachers at all levels, this course supports continuing professional development and helps schools strengthen child-safe practice in line with Australian expectations. It is a valuable refresher for educators who need to stay informed, compliant, and confident in protecting children and young people.
